{Our Wedding} The Cake

I think there’s truth in the universal belief that every girl, at some point in her life, dreams about her storybook wedding. The dress, the hair, the look on her grooms face as she walks down the aisle and catches sight of her for the very first time all dressed in white. What never crossed my mind when thinking about these future times – were the feelings that this chapter in my life would evoke. The things I’d find important along the way and the value I’d place on the people who’d help us make it to our special day.

Last night another piece of our wedding puzzle arrived: the cake topper.

Since the beginning of our wedding planning John made it pretty clear that the cake could be my ‘thang. So with an afternoon to myself, a tasty glass of Malbec in hand, and a mind full of ideas – i hit the internet (pinterest) to find some satisfactory wedding cake-spiration.

Simple, rustic and vintage are three words that have guided us through most of our wedding planning decisions.  A dear friend of mine, and self-taught talented baker, Carrie (author of sweating in style and cake styling)  and I have known each other since our middle school days when we met battling it out on the soccer field. Over the years Carrie and I kept in touch and as life has it – here we are a few years later, both back in the area, engaged, and scratching our heads wondering where the time went. After seeing pictures of an impressive Vera Bradley inspired birthday cake she made a few months back – I knew Carrie was the girl for the job – and lucky for us, she enthusiastically agreed! Although our wedding cake will likely be a small, two-tiered charming little number – rumor has it there might be an pretty impressive “cookie bar” to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

Until the next wedding post edition – Happy Friday to you all! xo
