{Our Wedding} The Invitations

If it were possible to have a simultaneous love affair with both your invitations and your invitations lady – this was it. Tara and I crossed paths last year as I visited my first bridal boutique on my search for the perfect dress. Tara’s shop, The Organized Bride, shared a space with the bridal boutique – and if her colorful and creative display of work didn’t convince you, her bubbly personality definitely did.

A few months went by before we actually reached out to Tara to begin cracking on these invitations, and by then – we found out that this Jersey girl was expecting baby number two. The more we tweaked and refined the invitations, the more our excitement grew – much like Tara’s expanding belly. Many a Friday’s were spent in her shop losing track of time as we laughed about the dynamics of a multi-cultural blending of families that our soon-to-be Irish/Colombian roots would encompass. I also remember a particular Friday where we spent a solid thirty minutes hearing all the horrors  joys pregnancy would bring. If for nothing else, hanging out with Tara brought some much needed laughs and entertainment.

John and I decided early on that yellow and orange would be our wedding colors; orange was my favorite color and yellow was a favorite of my dad’s. We knew that having a modern invitation was the route we wanted to go and somehow interlacing a delicate, rustic, and vintage look was part of the vision too. It truly was a team effort landing the final look, but we couldn’t be any happier with the final product. The background color and texture of the invitation has sort of a linen pattern to it – a lot like the burlap accents we plan to include in our wedding decor. The shades of orange and yellow we chose really gave the invites a nice “pop” from the ivory pocket they were in, and my absolute favorite detail of all was the lace ribbon that held the entire invitation together. It really gave the invite the touch of vintage I was looking for while giving an ode to my Spanish roots too.

The invitations went out last Friday, and our first official RSVP came in last night! If the big smile on my face didn’t give away the excitement I felt – than the ridiculous jig happy dance I broke into upon seeing it in our mailbox definitely did. 78 days and counting folks! xo
